GMX networks explained

GMX has direct perpetual markets on Arbitrum, Avalanche and MegaETH. Ethereum, Base and BNB can fund a GMX Account, but trades from that balance settle on Arbitrum rather than creating direct GMX markets on the source chain.

Network choice affects available markets, collateral, gas method, liquidity and contract exposure. A connected-chain label should not be assumed to identify the settlement chain.

Key takeaways

  1. 01Arbitrum, Avalanche and MegaETH host direct GMX markets.
  2. 02GMX Account is an Arbitrum balance and settlement system.
  3. 03Ethereum, Base and BNB act as supported GMX Account funding sources, not direct market chains.
  4. 04Each deployment has separate liquidity, rates and available markets.
  5. 05Network choice should include bridge, collateral, gas and execution risk.
01

Direct trading versus GMX Account

Direct wallet trading uses funds from a connected wallet on a chain where GMX markets are deployed. Arbitrum, Avalanche and MegaETH currently support that path.

GMX Account is a separate trading balance on Arbitrum. It can receive supported deposits from Ethereum, Base and BNB through the documented bridge flow. Positions still settle on Arbitrum markets.

02

GMX on Arbitrum

Arbitrum supports direct wallet trading and is the settlement chain for GMX Account. A trader can use Classic, Express or One-Click modes when the wallet type and account configuration support them.

Arbitrum is also the leader chain for new referral-code validation. This does not mean every GMX feature or market must have identical liquidity on every chain. Review the chain selector and market details before opening a position.

03

GMX on Avalanche

Avalanche has direct GMX markets using wallet funds. The GMX Account balance is not available there. Classic Trading uses AVAX for network gas, while Express modes can pay documented execution costs through supported collateral.

Avalanche markets have their own pools, open-interest limits, rates and available assets. An Arbitrum position is not automatically mirrored on Avalanche.

04

GMX on MegaETH

MegaETH supports direct wallet trading. The current trading overview lists ETH for Classic gas and USDM or WETH for Express-related payments. GMX Account is not available on MegaETH.

MegaETH is a newer deployment with a smaller market set and different liquidity conditions than Arbitrum. Check the current market catalog rather than assuming feature or asset parity.

05

Funding from Ethereum, Base and BNB

The GMX Account deposit flow can bridge supported tokens from Ethereum, Base or BNB into an Arbitrum trading balance. The documented deposit and withdrawal token lists differ by source chain.

Bridge transfers depend on Stargate liquidity caps and LayerZero messaging. A deposit source chain adds bridge and cross-chain dependencies even though the resulting trade settles on Arbitrum.

06

Wallet and account limitations

Smart-contract wallets such as Safe do not currently support GMX Account, Express Trading or One-Click according to the trading overview. Those wallets can still use compatible direct contract flows where supported.

One-Click stores a local sub-account key and has an authorization limit. A compromised browser can create risk within the remaining permission. Network choice does not remove device or approval risk.

07

How to choose a GMX network

Compare the exact market, collateral, available liquidity, open interest, borrowing and funding rates, bridge requirement and gas method. The chain with the lowest nominal gas is not always the chain with the best total execution.

Start with the official chain selector. Confirm the network in the wallet prompt and verify that the market and collateral match the intended position before signing.

Frequently asked questions

What networks does GMX support for direct trading?

Direct GMX markets are currently available on Arbitrum, Avalanche and MegaETH.

Can I trade GMX from Ethereum or Base?

Ethereum and Base do not host direct GMX markets. Supported tokens can fund a GMX Account whose trades settle on Arbitrum.

Is GMX Account available on Avalanche?

No. The current documentation limits GMX Account settlement to Arbitrum. Avalanche uses direct wallet trading.

Which chain is best for GMX?

There is no permanent best chain. Compare the intended market, collateral, liquidity, rates, bridge requirements and gas method at the time of the trade.

Do GMX positions move between chains?

No. Direct positions belong to the market deployment where they were opened. GMX Account positions settle on Arbitrum even when funding started on another supported chain.
